Choice for Book 1

For my indulgence in an autobiography, I have chosen American like Me by America Ferrera. I have always admired America both in her passions and her work in the entertainment industry. It is quite inspiring to see someone who continuously has roles that reflect her strong stances on uplifting all women and all minorities. In many of her projects such as Ugly Betty and Barbie, she has instilled confidence paired with an acknowledgment that the struggles many of us go through are real and pressing.

I am very intrigued to read an autobiography by her that is completely centered around the topics of being apart of the groups that create the melting of the United States of America. As someone who comes from an immigrant household, I lived a long life of balancing who I am in different ways. The version of me that is grounded and blossomed in America. Along with the version of myself that is continuous florishment of the culture of my Arab family and those behind them. There is a tug of war within this and as I am have so much admiration for America, it will be nothing but eye opening to hear about the the tug of war others are in and how they find peace in this continuous battle. I hope to grasp more tools to create a path to belonging and the true meaning of self perseverance.
